YOU WON'T BE ALONE

In an isolated village in 19th century Macedonia, a child is transformed into a witch

God damn.

I was not expecting this movie to be so beautiful. This is poetic narrative horror, through and through, like Terrence Malick directing Interview with the Vampire. With a creeping emphasis on body horror, it’s more disturbing than scary, but that’s okay. The world is scary enough. YWBA is a gruesome philosophical meditation on birth and death, and a staggeringly impressive feature film debut from Goran Stolevski.

I haven’t been this moved by anything within the horror genre since the 2008 vampire masterpiece Let the Right One In.

Quite possibly the best witch movie I’ve ever seen

THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT

Nicolas Cage plays himself in this action-comedy celebrating…himself

I love Nick Cage and I adore this movie, which at times feels like nothing more than a gushing love letter to the actor, but the script has enough heart to stand on its own even if the 10,000 references go over your head. This is a wild ride, and the chemistry between Cage and Pedro Pascal (the mysterious millionaire who lures Nick into a world of crime) is off the charts.

Made for film nerds by film nerds, TUWOMT is a triumph and a delight. The sheer joy that everyone had making this movie really shines through.
